When it comes to fashion, colour can get a bad rap. Particularly in recent seasons, there’s been a focus on muted tones: beiges, whites, blacks and navys. And while there is a certain understated coolness in monochromatic dressing, it’s all starting to feel a little… boring. That’s why we were so thrilled to see the emergence of bold, unapologetic colour for AW26.
This season, four delectable colours have emerged as the official palette of the season: tangerine, sage, chocolate, and teal. We first saw these hues on the runways of Paris and Milan. There were clashing shades of orange at Miu Miu and Zimmermann, soft green tones at Jonathan Anderson’s much-hyped debut for Dior, rich brown tones at Longchamp and delicate hints of blue-green for Bottega Veneta. At Chanel, the brand’s new creative director Matthieu Blazy has featured all four of these shades, painting a vision of effortless French elegance that places colour front and centre.
But how do we actually embrace this new-found interest in colour? Statement accessories are a great start, like this ‘Hamilton' handbag by Michael Kors in a juicy mimosa hue. It’s the perfect addition to your trusted denim-and-a-knit autumn uniform, though it works very well with head-to-toe brown too. Speaking of brown, chocolate-coloured eveningwear cropped up at Aje and Incu this season, in the form of flowing taffeta dresses and body-conscious ruched jersey sets. Brown works well with teal, another favourite for daywear this season, with Camilla and Marc are offering sharp shirting. Our advice? Embrace the mix-and-match element: pair a brown cashmere cardigan with pistachio-hued trousers, or an orange sweater with a chocolate-coloured trench coat.

And don’t sleep on beauty either – this season it’s all about brown eyeliner and mascara, (like Mecca Max's Whip Lash Tubing Mascara in Brown and YSL Beauty's Line Liberated Eye Pencil in Deconstructed Brown) tangerine-hued blush (like Fenty Beauty’s Cheek Suede in Daiquiri Drip 06 available at Sephora), and statement-making eyeshadow shades in a whole plethora of greens and blues (like Dior Cosmetics's 5 Couleurs Eyeshadows in the shades ‘Lucky Clover’ and ‘Denim’).
