The New Athleisure

This season activewear blends performance with polish, courtesy of investment layers, statement sneakers, and luxe accessories.

In 2026, activewear is all grown up – less focused on chasing PBs and more interested in how clothes adapt to everyday life. The key is finding those pieces that blend utility and style: sneaker-ballet flat hybrids, sporty knitwear, high-performance gym shorts with elevated details (and so chic you’ll wear them long after your spin class ends). Here, we round-up three post-gym looks that you’ll gladly wear all day long, from school pickup to gallery visits, to long Saturday lunches.

Look One: Utility, Refined

Designed to mimic the highly functional craftsmanship of Japanese technical fabrics – known as monozukuri – these cargo pants from New Balance are lightweight, waterproof, and breathable, making them perfect for dance classes or high-intensity walks. For the latter, add Salomon’s notoriously well-designed XT-6 running shoe, finished in durable Gore-Tex for maximum winter resistance. Adidas’ fuzzy ‘Cali’ knit promises the same blend of functionality and new-season cool: just add gold hoop earrings from Lovisa and finish the look with some on-trend oval-shaped shades, like this pair by Oroton.

Look Two: Studio To Street

We love the sleek monochrome of head-to-toe black in the yoga studio, like these sustainably produced high-compression flared leggings from Fabletics (at JD Sports) paired with Asics’ adjustable four-way stretch-knit sports bra. But even the most diehard minimalist knows that a splash of colour can make or break an off-duty outfit. After class, throw on this sporty quilted jacket by P.E Nation (available at Stylerunner), chunky gold jewellery from Michael Hill, and a sleek pair of everyday sneakers, like these ‘90s-inspired Ultra Lo kicks from Reebok (paired with socks from South.St). Don’t forget a high performance yoga mat in an unexpected colourway. Lululemon’s cult-status ‘The Mat’ is made with innovative grip technology for better grip, and comes in a range of delectable hues including our personal favourite, ‘Matcha’.

Look Three: Easy Does It

This season’s obsession with all things brown extends to athleisure. Adidas' gym shorts are breathable and stylish, blending iconic design with contemporary style. Dress them up with a great white tee (we love the boxy adaptability of this everyday style by Lorna Jane), a comfy knit (like this one from DISSH), and an oversized jacket, like this cocoon-style leather bomber by Zara. Below the ankle, Puma’s Speedcat Ballet Flats (available at Hype DC) replace traditional sneakers with something sleeker and more fashion-forward – and they look adorable with pointelle frilled socks (like these ones from H&M). Finish the look with a throw-everything-in oversized handbag. We’re lusting over this chocolate brown tote bag from Sportsgirl – perfect for a long Sunday walk followed by an even longer brunch.
